www.gst.gov.in is the Indian Government’s official GST Portal that has made everything easier for taxpayers by providing a variety of different taxpaying facilities. These facilities include GST registration, filing of GST returns, application for refunds, the cancellation of the GST registration, and some other services. The important objective of this portal is to make it easier for the citizens to access the different tax-paying services online without having to visit tax departments in person. Although there will be GST facilitation centers across the country, most people would be able to get most of the communications done through the GST Portal.

How to Login to GST Portal?

Logging into GST Portal is easy once you have an account made on the portal. Here’s how you can log into the GST Portal:

  1. Visit the Official GST Portal Website.
  2. Click on the Login button from the homepage.
  3. Now, enter the Username and Password.
  4. Click on the Login button.
  5. You will be logged into the GST Portal.

First-time Log In

  1. If you are logging in for the first time then click on the First Time Login button.
  2. Enter the Provisional ID / GSTIN / UIN and Password.
  3. Click on the Login button.
  4. You will be logged into the GST Portal.
  5. You will be asked to set a new username and password. After you set the new username and password, you can then log in using the new username and password.

  • PAN of the Applicant
  • Aadhaar Card of the Applicant
  • Proof of business registration / Incorporation certificate
  • Proof of Address of the Place of Business
  • Bank Account statement
  • Letter of Authorization/Board Resolution for Authorized Signatory
  • Digital Signature

Who is eligible for GST Registration?

The following people and businesses are eligible for GST Registration:

  • Individuals registered under the Pre-GST law
  • Businesses having turnovers greater than Rs. 40 lakhs or Rs. 10 for the North-Eastern States, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
  • Agents of a supplier
  • Input service distributor
  • Casual taxable person
  • E-Commerce Aggregators
  • Non-Resident Taxable Person
  • Non-Resident Online Services Provider
  • People Supplying via an E-Commerce Aggregator
  • Taxpayers under the reverse charge mechanism

GST Registration

If your turnover exceeds the specified threshold limits then you are required to obtain the GST Registration which can be done through the online portal of GST. Here is how you can obtain GST Registration online:

  1. Visit the Official GST Portal Website.
  2. Go to Services > Registration > New Registration.
  3. Select the New Registration option.
  4. Now, enter all the required information including your registration as an (e.g TaxPayer), State, District, Name of the Business, PAN Number, Email Address, and Mobile Number.
  5. Enter the required information along with the Captcha Code and click on the Proceed button.
  6. You will receive separate OTPs on your phone number and email address. Enter OTPs in the given fields and click on Proceed.
  7. A Temporary Reference Number (TRN) will be produced. You will also be shown the date by which you can fill out the form.
  8. Copy the TRN and click on Proceed.
  9. Now, select the Temporary Reference Number (TRN) option.
  10. Enter the TRN along with the Captcha code and click on Proceed.
  11. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number/email address. Enter the OTP and click on Proceed.

  12. You will be now asked to enter important information such as General Details, Applicant Details, and Business Details.
  13. Once you enter all the information, submit the application. You will receive an acknowledgment in your email within 15-20 minutes.
